Here are some random thoughts.
I’ve done the math. I’ve checked how long it takes me to write a good material. It’s too long.
This has been a worthy experiment, but there are other things to do in life besides write a book. If I don’t get it done by the end of the year I won’t sweat it. This doesn’t mean I’m giving up. It just means that I’m not too worried about timetables anymore.
Good News: No Crohn’s Disease after all!
Bad News: Still have ulcers. Weight has reached nearly 200lbs. Tooth is hurting. It’s time to start back with weight loss and a smarter diet.
Took a lot of writing breaks this week. Part laziness and part need to chill. Very little reading done for the same reasons. Joined Critique Circle.
A family member is having health issues. Some of us visited yesterday. Not getting into any more details on this but hopefully things will get better for them.
So how’s writing going?
That’s the question I ask myself every day. I’m finding that my goals are shifting because planning seems to be taking a lot of time. The characters have to have names. The places have to have backgrounds. How many islands are there? How many empires are there? How does magic work? etc…
Loosely, about four or five scenes have been written. However, I can tell you that I’m writing more than the end of last year and with greater consistency. This book might actually be the one. Things are clicking more and more.
If you focus on word count and don’t have yourself a plan, it’s easy to write yourself into a hole. Trust me, I’ve been doing this a few years now. It’s what happened with my last book. This time I’m making sure I get things right.
Three people have told me I write like Neil Gaiman. I can sort of see the similarities, but I can also see the differences. It feels like it’s a toss-up. That being said, this book has been on the bucket list for a while, so without further ado let’s get to it.
Today I wanted to share my current writing tools. It is all software-based as I don’t use paper anymore. There are four primary pieces of software that I use: Word, Onedrive, OneNote, and Scrivener.
I’ve been having some health issues lately. Not the same kind as before with the back but rather with my digestive system. The doctor found ulcers in the small intestine. He thinks it might be Crohn’s Disease, but the diagnosis is inconclusive.
I’m used to dealing with things healthwise but this is different. I’ve decided to change my diet significantly, so the previous meal plans won’t work. I’m going to be using my blender a lot, and I’ve bought a food processor, juicer, and a whole lot of Mason jars.
It feels like I’m going to war, but if good health requires as much, then war it is.
